Does HuggingChat have web search?
Yes. Web search ships as a built-in tool, currently powered by Exa and wired in as one of HuggingChat's default MCP servers, so the model can pull real-time information during a conversation. This is essential for questions about current events, recent releases, or anything outside the model's training cutoff.
Can I create custom assistants?
Not in the current build. HuggingChat previously let users create custom assistants with their own system prompts, tool access, and personalities and share them publicly in an assistant library, comparable to GPTs in the OpenAI GPT Store but open and free. That feature is switched off today: when we checked in August 2026, Hugging Face's chat feature flag endpoint reported assistants as disabled and the assistants page no longer opens a library.
