Westlaw Precision is Thomson Reuters's current flagship legal research product, building on the older Westlaw Edge platform. It combines Westlaw's authoritative legal content with enhanced search, citation signals (including KeyCite Overruling Risk), statutes compare tools, and AI-assisted research and drafting features inherited from CoCounsel. The goal is to give lawyers faster, more reliable research backed by a trusted content corpus.

Classic Westlaw offers search, case law, statutes, and regulations research. Westlaw Precision adds more advanced citation signals, statute comparison, deeper AI features, and integration with CoCounsel skills. It also connects to Practical Law (transactional guidance) and Westlaw Litigation Analytics (judge and firm data) in a more cohesive way. Most firms are migrating from classic Westlaw to Precision as contracts renew.

They are related but distinct. CoCounsel is the AI skill layer originally built by Casetext and acquired by Thomson Reuters. Westlaw Precision is the research platform. The two are increasingly integrated: Westlaw content grounds CoCounsel answers, and CoCounsel skills appear inside Westlaw Precision. Firms commonly buy both as part of the same Thomson Reuters contract and see them as complementary rather than competing products.
