Perplexity Spaces

Spaces are dedicated workspaces inside Perplexity that let you organize your searches and threads by topic or project. Each Space acts as a centralized hub for a specific research area, marketing intelligence, a client project, a legal case, a thesis topic, with its own threads, uploaded files, custom instructions, and optional collaborators. Instead of losing context across your full Perplexity history, Spaces keep everything related to one project in one place.

Personal Spaces are available on both the free Perplexity plan and Perplexity Pro ($20/month), though Pro gives you higher message limits, stronger models, and more upload capacity. Shared Spaces, where you invite teammates to collaborate on the same research, require Perplexity Enterprise Pro at $40 per user per month or Enterprise Max at $325 per user per month.

You can add threads (saved conversations), uploaded files (PDFs, CSVs, images), custom instructions that guide how Perplexity answers in that Space, and focus modes that restrict searches to specific sources like academic papers or social media. Spaces are the closest Perplexity gets to a Notion-style knowledge base, built for ongoing research projects where you want Perplexity to remember context across many sessions.

On Enterprise Pro, the Space owner can invite teammates as viewers or research partners. Viewers can read threads and files. Research partners can create new threads in the Space and ask follow-up questions on existing ones, so multiple people can contribute research without stepping on each other. Spaces have granular permissions, and admin controls let IT limit who can create Spaces and invite external users.

They overlap but are tuned for different workflows. NotebookLM is optimized for deeply studying a fixed set of documents you've uploaded, its audio overviews and mind maps are unmatched. Perplexity Spaces is optimized for ongoing web research where your sources are still being discovered. Many teams use both, NotebookLM for deep dives, Perplexity Spaces for live research.

Yes. Perplexity's iOS and Android apps fully support Spaces, you can switch between Spaces from the sidebar, ask questions in a Space's context, and review shared threads on the go. File upload works on mobile too, which is useful for capturing photos of documents or whiteboards and adding them to a Space during a meeting. Desktop is still the best place to organize a Space initially.

Yes, and this is one of the most powerful combinations. You can create a Space with Academic focus for a research thesis, Social focus for a market intelligence project, or Writing focus for a long-form content project. The focus mode applies to all threads in that Space, so you don't have to set it manually each time. You can also combine custom instructions with a focus mode to fine-tune responses.

Free users can create a handful of personal Spaces. Pro users ($20/month) get significantly higher limits, enough for most professionals managing multiple projects simultaneously. Enterprise Pro ($40/user/month) removes most limits and adds shared Spaces across a team workspace with org-wide admin controls. Most individual users never hit the Pro tier limits.
