Similarweb
Traffic and market intelligence that estimates any website's visitors, channels and audience, with an SEO suite and an AI-search visibility tracker bundled into the same plans.
How we reviewed We did not have platform access. Everything on this page comes from Similarweb's published pricing, product and knowledge-center pages and its investor filings, read in September 2026. No payment was made for this review or the score. The score reflects a documented product, not a tested one.
What Similarweb is
Similarweb sells estimates of other people's traffic. That is the core of it, and everything else is built outward from that one capability. You type in a domain you do not own and it returns visits, engagement, geography, device split, traffic sources, referring sites, top pages and audience overlap. Google Analytics tells you about your own site. Similarweb's argument is that it tells you about everyone else's.
The company runs six product lines off the same data spine: Web Intelligence, App Intelligence, Retail Intelligence, Sales Intelligence, Stock Intelligence and AI Search Intelligence. That is why the same subscription a marketer buys for competitor research is also sold to investors as an alternative-data feed. This review covers Web Intelligence, the product behind the self-service plans, and the AEO Intelligence plan that is sold alongside it.
The 2026 addition is AEO, which Similarweb has folded directly into its plan names rather than selling separately. The two upper self-service tiers are literally called "Competitive Intel & SEO & AEO" and "Competitive Intel, SEO & AEO & Ads". The module covers AI Brand Visibility, 150 tracked prompts, sentiment analysis, citation analysis and AI Traffic, and Similarweb lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini, Claude, Grok and DeepSeek as the platforms it monitors, with a matching set of per-engine traffic trackers. On the enterprise side there is AI Studio, a natural-language query layer, plus a set of AI Agents and MCP access.
The thing to understand before you buy is that Similarweb is not a measurement tool. It is a modelling tool, and it says so itself. Its knowledge center states that because it is an estimations tool it does not expect its estimations to align exactly with your direct measurement data, and asks you to expect trend alignment rather than matching numbers. It is also the strongest product in this directory at the thing it does, and a mediocre buy if traffic estimation is not actually what you need. Semrush and Ahrefs give you more keyword and backlink depth per dollar. Similarweb wins when the question is "how big is this company and where do its visitors come from", not "what should I write next".
Pricing
Similarweb publishes its self-service prices, with annual and monthly rates side by side, once you find them. The pricing page opens on the "Businesses & Enterprises" tab, which shows no prices at all, only "Talk to sales". The numbers below sit behind the "Entrepreneurs" toggle and are rendered by JavaScript. The headline figures are $125, $333 and $542 per month billed annually, or $199, $399 and $649 per month billed monthly. Every self-service plan is one user.
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Seats and history | What it includes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Competitive Intelligence | $125 | $199 | 1 user, 3 months | Website Performance, Traffic & Engagement, Customer Demographics, Marketing Channels Overview, Competitor Alerts |
| Competitive Intel & SEO & AEO (Most Popular) | $333 | $399 | 1 user, 6 months | Adds SEO Intelligence (Organic Search Overview, Keyword Research, Rank Tracker, Site Audit & Backlinks) and AEO Intelligence (AI Brand Visibility, 150 tracked prompts, Sentiment Analysis, Citation Analysis, AI Traffic) |
| Competitive Intel, SEO & AEO & Ads | $542 | $649 | 1 user, 6 months | Adds Ad Intelligence: Creative & Campaign Insights, search, display and social insights, Advertiser Demand Signals, Ad Spend |
| AEO Intelligence (AI Search Intelligence line) | $99 | $129 | 1 user, 3 months | AI Brand Visibility, 150 tracked prompts, Sentiment Analysis, Citation Analysis, AI Traffic. The AEO module on its own, without SEO or competitive intelligence |
| Businesses & Enterprises | Not published | Not published | Custom, up to 37 months | Competitive Intel, Strategic SEO, Ads Intel and Gen AI Intel suites, 100+ country coverage, AI Studio, AI Agents, APIs and data feeds, MCP, custom dashboards, SSO, dedicated support. Quote only |
All figures in US dollars per month, read from similarweb.com/packages/web/ and similarweb.com/packages/ai-search/ in September 2026, cross-checked against the structured data those pages ship. Multiplied out, the annual plans are $1,500, $3,996 and $6,504 a year (our arithmetic, not a figure Similarweb prints).
How to read the pricing page
Four things about these numbers are worth knowing before you subscribe.
The monthly premium is steep and uneven. $199 against $125 is 59% more on the entry plan. $399 against $333 and $649 against $542 are both about 20% more. If you are going to pay month to month, the entry plan is where you are penalised hardest.
You cannot switch to annual billing yourself. Similarweb's own pricing FAQ answers "How can I switch to annual billing?" by asking you to email support@similarweb.com and open a support ticket. The cheaper rate costs you a ticket and a wait. Cancellation on Entrepreneurs plans, by contrast, is self-serve from the subscription page.
The $333 plan is one SKU with two names. The Web Intelligence page calls it "Competitive Intel & SEO & AEO" and the AI Search page calls it "AEO & SEO & Competitive Intel". Same price pair, same single seat, same modules, same "Most Popular" badge. Each page leads with the product line you arrived from. One wrinkle: the AI Search page's rendered card says 6 months of historical data for that plan while the same page's structured data says 3 months. The Web Intelligence page says 6 months in both places, so 6 months is the supported figure, but it shows how Similarweb's own machine-readable pricing can disagree with itself, which is one reason third-party pricing pages for this tool disagree with each other.
There is no free plan, but there is a real trial. Similarweb's blog describes a 7-day free trial that requires a card, is limited to 15 actions a day, and charges you when the trial ends unless you cancel first. The free tools on similarweb.com (Website Traffic Checker, AI Traffic Checker, Free Keyword Tool, SERP Seismograph, Free App Analytics, Company Profile Checker, Technology Checker, UTM Builder and a browser extension) need no subscription, and the pricing FAQ describes the free sample data as "a very high-level taste" of the product. Enterprise pricing is entirely unpublished and we make no estimate of it.
What we verified, and what we did not
Reviews of platforms this wide often imply a score covers everything. This one does not, so here is the boundary in plain terms.
Verified: every self-service price, billing basis, seat count and history limit, read from the vendor's rendered plan cards and from the structured data those pages ship, which agree with each other on every figure except the one noted above. The annual-billing support-ticket rule, the free tools list, the trial terms, the API sales gate and the Q2 2026 financials were all read from Similarweb's own pages. Three knowledge-center articles (data accuracy, the "Not enough data" threshold and the free DigitalRank API) block automated access, so we confirmed their wording through the search index of the vendor's own help center rather than a rendered read.
Not tested: the platform itself. We did not run AI Brand Visibility, the 150 tracked prompts, citation or sentiment analysis, the rank tracker, the site audit, Ad Intelligence, AI Studio, AI Agents or the API, and we did not benchmark any traffic estimate against a site we control. Support responsiveness, including how long the annual-billing ticket actually takes, is unmeasured.
That means the score below rates a documented product, not a tested one, and gives no credit in either direction for modules we could not run.
How reliable the numbers are
Because the product is a model rather than a meter, the useful question is not "is it accurate" but "when does it show data at all, and how much should I trust it when it does". Similarweb documents this more openly than most vendors, and the thresholds are specific.
| Situation | What Similarweb shows |
|---|---|
| A site Similarweb estimates under 5,000 visits for the period | No numeric value is shown in the platform. The knowledge center says estimates below that level carry too much variance to meet its accuracy bar |
| A site with under 5,000 monthly desktop visits | Desktop data is not displayed, so desktop-only features go blank |
| A site above 100,000 monthly visits | The band where Similarweb says it is most confident in its estimates |
| Your own site with Google Analytics connected | Similarweb shows your verified session numbers instead of its model, through the Verify Your Website flow |
| History on a self-service plan | 3 months on the $125 and $99 plans, 6 months on the $333 and $542 plans |
| History on an enterprise package | Up to 37 months, quote only |
Thresholds and confidence bands are Similarweb's own, from its knowledge center. We have not measured any estimate against real analytics, so we cannot tell you how far off a typical number is, only where the vendor itself says to stop trusting it.
Where Similarweb is the strongest pick
Similarweb is at its strongest when the question is about a company you have no access to. Market sizing, share of traffic across a category, channel mix for a competitor, audience overlap between two brands, which referrers feed a rival: no SEO-first tool does this as well, and most do not attempt it. For a strategy team, an agency pitching new business, or an investor building a thesis, the traffic and audience layer is the product, and it is best in class.
The second argument is consolidation. The $333 plan puts competitor traffic intelligence, a workable SEO suite and an AI-search visibility tracker in one subscription. A marketer who would otherwise buy a traffic tool, an SEO tool and an AEO specialist can reasonably collapse that into one bill, provided one seat is enough.
Best for
Competitive analysts, market researchers, corporate strategy teams, agency new-business teams and investors who need defensible directional numbers about companies they have no access to: market sizing, share of traffic, channel mix, audience overlap and category benchmarking. Also a reasonable single purchase for a marketer who wants competitor traffic intelligence and AI-visibility tracking in one subscription and is willing to pay $333 a month for the combination. A poor fit for a solo SEO or small content team whose actual job is keyword research, rank tracking and backlinks, where cheaper specialists do more; for anyone analysing small sites, which it will often refuse to report on at all; for teams who need more than one login, since every self-service plan is single-seat; and for anyone who needs API access without talking to a salesperson.
Key features
- Traffic and engagement estimates for any domain you do not own: visits, visit duration, pages per visit, bounce rate and month-over-month trend
- Traffic source breakdown across direct, search, referral, social, display and email, with the specific referring and outgoing sites named
- Audience demographics, geographic split, device split and audience-overlap analysis against named competitors
- Keyword research, organic search overview, rank tracker, site audit and backlink tools in the SEO Intelligence suite on the $333 plan and above
- AEO Intelligence on the $333 plan and above, and on its own at $99: AI Brand Visibility with 150 tracked prompts, sentiment analysis, citation analysis and AI Traffic
- Per-engine AI traffic trackers for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek
- Ad Intelligence on the $542 plan: creative and campaign insights, search, display and social insights, advertiser demand signals and ad spend
- Five sibling intelligence lines on the same data: App, Retail, Sales, Stock and AI Search
- AI Studio natural-language querying, AI Agents, MCP and data feeds into Snowflake and AWS, all on enterprise packages only
- Verify Your Website, which connects your Google Analytics so Similarweb shows your real session numbers instead of its estimate
- A free browser extension and a set of free public tools that need no account
Best-fit use cases
- Sizing a market by adding up estimated traffic across every serious player in a category
- Benchmarking your channel mix against three named competitors before a budget review
- Checking where a rival's referral traffic actually comes from before a partnership or affiliate push
- Tracking how often your brand and your competitors appear in AI answers, alongside the traffic data that explains why
- Agency new-business research on a prospect and its competitors, where you have no analytics access to any of them
Pros
- Best in class at the one thing it exists to do: estimating traffic, channels and audience for sites you have no access to
- Unusually candid documentation: it says in writing that it is an estimations tool, that it does not expect to match your direct measurement, and exactly when it will refuse to show data
- Self-service prices are actually published, with annual and monthly rates side by side, once you find the right tab
- AEO is bundled into the mainstream plans rather than sold as a fashionable add-on, including 150 tracked prompts and citation analysis, and is available on its own for $99 a month billed annually
- Breadth few competitors match: web, app, retail, sales, stock and AI search intelligence off one dataset
- Financially solid and unlikely to disappear: publicly traded as SMWB, $77.2 million revenue in Q2 2026 on 9% growth, and its first ever quarter of positive GAAP operating profit
- You can correct the record on your own site by connecting Google Analytics
Cons
- Every self-service plan is a single seat, and no second-seat price is published anywhere
- Historical data on self-service is 3 or 6 months; the 37-month depth that makes trend work meaningful is enterprise-only
- The pricing page defaults to a tab with no prices on it, and the real numbers only appear after toggling to Entrepreneurs and waiting for JavaScript
- Switching to the cheaper annual billing requires emailing support to open a ticket rather than clicking a button
- Monthly billing on the entry plan costs 59% more than the annual rate, a much harsher penalty than the roughly 20% applied to the two tiers above it
- No platform API at any self-service price; the only free API is a narrow ranking endpoint capped at 100 data credits a month
- It shows nothing at all for a site it estimates under 5,000 visits, and nothing on desktop-only features under 5,000 monthly desktop visits
- Expensive as a pure SEO tool: $333 a month buys keyword research and a rank tracker that Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking match or beat for less
- The vendor's own structured data contradicts its rendered plan card on history for the $333 plan on one page
- Enterprise pricing is completely opaque, and the enterprise tier is where AI Studio, AI Agents, MCP and the platform API all live
What to watch out for
Four things, in rough order of how much they will cost you.
These are estimates, and the vendor says so. This is the single most important sentence on this page. Similarweb's knowledge center says it is an estimations tool that captures billions of digital signals to feed its algorithms, and that it does not expect its estimations to align exactly with your direct measurement data. It asks you to expect trend alignment, not matching numbers. That is an honest position and we credit it, but it means you must never paste a Similarweb figure into a board deck or a pitch as though it were measured. Use it for relative comparison and direction of travel. The moment someone in the room has the real analytics for one of the sites on your chart, a number presented as fact becomes a credibility problem.
Small sites return nothing, and the threshold is specific. Similarweb documents that when it estimates fewer than 5,000 visits for a period it shows no numeric value, and that sites under 5,000 monthly desktop visits have no desktop data to display. If your competitive set is niche B2B, early-stage startups or local businesses, run a few of your actual target domains through the free Website Traffic Checker before you spend anything. A subscription that returns "Not enough data" on half your list is worthless, and this is trivially cheap to test first.
Budget the annual rate, then check you can actually get it. The prices you see first, at $125, $333 and $542, are annual-billed-monthly. Paying month to month costs $199, $399 and $649, and on the entry plan that is a 59% penalty rather than the roughly 20% charged on the tiers above. Worse, the FAQ says you cannot switch to annual yourself: you email support@similarweb.com and open a ticket. Sort the billing cadence out before you subscribe, not after. The 7-day trial also takes a card and bills you when it ends unless you cancel.
Check what you are actually buying it for. Similarweb bundles SEO and AEO into the $333 plan, and that reads like good value until you compare like for like. As an SEO tool at that price it is unremarkable next to Semrush, Ahrefs or SE Ranking, and you get one seat and six months of history. The premium is for the traffic and audience data, which nobody else does as well. If competitor traffic intelligence is a nice-to-have rather than the reason you are buying, you are paying a large premium for it. If AI-search visibility is the only thing you want, the $99 AEO Intelligence plan buys that module on its own.
Is Similarweb worth it?
Yes, for the buyer it is actually built for. If your job is understanding a market or a competitor you cannot see inside, Similarweb's traffic and audience layer has no real equal in this directory, and $125 a month for the entry plan is cheap against the cost of guessing. At $333 the bundle adds a usable SEO suite and an AI-visibility tracker that most rivals sell separately, and for a marketer who wants all three in one bill and needs one seat, that is a defensible purchase.
It scores 4.2 rather than higher for reasons that are concentrated in value and integrations. One seat, six months of history and no API at any published price is a thin package for a category leader, and a large share of buyers arriving from SEO queries would be better served, and charged less, by a specialist. It scores 4.2 rather than lower because the core capability is genuinely best in class and because the vendor is unusually honest about the product's limits, which is worth more than a competitor quietly returning a confident wrong number.
Worth saying plainly: we did not run the product. The AEO module, which is the feature most likely to decide a 2026 purchase, is scored on its published specification, and the score can move in either direction once someone measures it against a brand they control.
How we arrived at 4.2
The score is weighted across eight categories. Usability is scored on the evaluation and purchase path only, because we had no platform access, and we say so in the table rather than guessing.
| Category | Weight | Score | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product quality | 20 | 19 | Category leader at estimating third-party traffic, channels and audience. Nothing in our SEO cluster is comparable at this one job |
| Features | 15 | 14 | Six intelligence lines off one data spine, AEO bundled into mainstream plans, Ad Intelligence on the top tier, GA4 verification for your own site |
| Value | 15 | 9 | $333 a month for one seat and 6 months of history. The SEO half of that bundle is matched or beaten on price by Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking |
| Usability | 10 | 6 | Not assessed in-product, we had no platform access. Scored on the evaluation and purchase path only: a pricing page that opens with no prices, an annual switch that needs a support ticket, self-serve cancellation on Entrepreneurs plans |
| Reliability | 15 | 12 | Modelled data with a documented 5,000-visit floor. The vendor is candid about it, which we credit. Its own structured data contradicts its rendered card on one plan |
| Integrations | 10 | 5 | Platform API, MCP, data feeds and AI Studio are all enterprise-only. One free ranking API with 100 data credits a month is the only published exception |
| Market trust | 10 | 9 | Public company, first GAAP operating profit in Q2 2026, 473 customers above $100,000 ARR, ARR past $300 million |
| Support | 5 | 3 | Knowledge center is thorough and honest. Billing cadence cannot be changed without a ticket, and responsiveness was not tested |
| Total | 100 | 77 | Ten of those points sit on modules we did not run |
The 5 point score is a product rating rather than a linear map of that total, and it reflects a best-in-class core capability discounted by a single-seat, short-history, API-less self-service package.
FAQ
How much does Similarweb cost in 2026?
The self-service Web Intelligence plans are $125, $333 and $542 per month billed annually, or $199, $399 and $649 per month if you pay monthly. All three are single-seat. The AEO Intelligence plan, the entry plan of the AI Search Intelligence line, is $99 per month billed annually or $129 per month billed monthly, also single-seat. Business and enterprise packages are quote-only and Similarweb publishes no figures for them. The pricing page opens on the enterprise tab, where no prices appear at all, so switch to the Entrepreneurs toggle to see any numbers.
Is there a free version of Similarweb?
There is no free plan for the platform. Similarweb publishes free tools that need no subscription, including the Website Traffic Checker, AI Traffic Checker, Free Keyword Tool, SERP Seismograph, Free App Analytics and a browser extension, plus sample data on similarweb.com that its own pricing FAQ calls a very high-level taste of the product. The paid platform has a 7-day free trial that requires a card, is limited to 15 actions a day, and converts to a paid plan unless you cancel before it ends.
How accurate is Similarweb data?
It is modelled, not measured, and Similarweb says so. Its knowledge center describes the product as an estimations tool and says it does not expect its figures to align exactly with your direct measurement data, only on trend. It also says confidence is higher for sites above 100,000 monthly visits and lower for small sites. Treat the numbers as comparative rather than absolute, and expect real divergence from any site's own analytics.
Why does Similarweb show no data for my website?
Almost certainly because the site is too small. Similarweb's knowledge center says that when it estimates fewer than 5,000 visits for a period it shows no numeric value, and that sites with under 5,000 monthly desktop visits have no desktop data to display. You can fix this for your own domain by connecting Google Analytics through Verify Your Website, after which Similarweb shows your real session numbers.
Does Similarweb track AI search visibility?
Yes, and it is bundled rather than sold as an add-on. The $333 and $542 plans include AEO Intelligence with AI Brand Visibility, 150 tracked prompts, sentiment analysis, citation analysis and AI Traffic. The same module is sold on its own as the AEO Intelligence plan at $99 per month billed annually or $129 per month billed monthly, with one user and 3 months of history. Similarweb lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini, Claude, Grok and DeepSeek as the platforms monitored. We have not tested the accuracy of any of these modules.
Similarweb or Semrush and Ahrefs: which should I buy?
They answer different questions. Similarweb is the strongest tool for estimating how much traffic a site you do not own gets and where it comes from, which makes it the pick for market sizing, competitor benchmarking and audience analysis. Semrush and Ahrefs are stronger and cheaper for keyword research, rank tracking and backlinks, which is what most day-to-day SEO work consists of. If your job is producing and ranking content, start with a specialist. If your job is understanding a market, Similarweb earns its premium.
Can I get Similarweb API access on a self-service plan?
Not the platform API. Similarweb's developer page says API access is available as part of its Business and Enterprise plans or as a standalone package, and both routes go through sales. None of the published self-service tiers include it. The one narrow exception is a free DigitalRank API for global website ranking data, which the knowledge center caps at 100 data credits a month. AI Studio, AI Agents, MCP access and data feeds into Snowflake or AWS are all enterprise-only.
Is Similarweb a stable company to depend on?
It is one of the more financially solid vendors in this category. Similarweb is publicly traded as SMWB and its 12 August 2026 release reported $77.2 million in revenue for the second quarter, up 9% year over year, its first ever quarter of positive GAAP operating profit, 473 customers with ARR of $100,000 or more, and annual recurring revenue above $300 million. That does not make the product right for you, but the risk of the platform disappearing is low.
Pricing, plan limits and feature claims verified September 2026 from similarweb.com/packages/web/ and similarweb.com/packages/ai-search/ (rendered plan cards and each page's own structured data), similarweb.com/corp/developer/, Similarweb's blog post on its free offerings, and the second quarter 2026 results release on ir.similarweb.com dated 12 August 2026. Knowledge-center articles on data accuracy, the "Not enough data" threshold and the free DigitalRank API block automated access and were confirmed through the search index of Similarweb's own help center. ToolChase did not have platform access and received no payment for this review. Scores, rankings and list positions are never sold. See our methodology for how we score tools.
